You Have His Attention

Fuel Your Faith: Biblical Insights for Daily Living

Have you ever tried to talk to someone who wasn't really listening?

They're looking at their phone. Their mind is somewhere else. They're nodding, but you can tell they haven't heard half of what you've said.

We know what it feels like to compete for someone's attention.

Sometimes, without realizing it, we begin imagining God the same way.

There are billions of people in the world. Countless prayers are being spoken at this very moment. There are wars, tragedies, illnesses, families in crisis and needs far greater than our own.

So we wonder:

Does God really have time for this?

Does He care about the worry keeping me awake?

Does He notice the disappointment I haven't told anyone about?

Does He hear the prayer I've whispered a hundred times?

Does something this small really matter to Him?

Charles Stanley offered a simple but powerful reminder:

“You always have God's undivided attention.”— Charles Stanley

Think about that for a moment.

You never have to compete for God's attention.

He isn't distracted by someone else's prayer while you're speaking.

Your concern isn't pushed further down the list because someone else has a bigger problem.

You never approach Him at an inconvenient time.

And you never receive only part of His attention.

David understood how personally God knows His children:

“You have searched me, LORD, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.”— Psalm 139:1–2

The God who created galaxies knows when you sit down.

He knows when you stand up.

He knows your thoughts before you've figured out how to put them into words.

That is how deeply personal our relationship with God can be.

A Truth to Hold Onto

God's greatness does not make Him distant.

In fact, Scripture repeatedly shows us the opposite.

Jesus tells us that our Father knows what we need before we ask Him. Scripture tells us that God knows the number of hairs on our heads. The Psalms describe Him as being near to the brokenhearted.

God doesn't simply know humanity.

He knows you.

He knows the prayer you haven't been able to finish.

He knows why that particular situation bothers you so much.

He knows what you're afraid might happen.

He knows the hope you're almost afraid to say out loud.

And because of Jesus, Scripture tells us that we can approach God confidently:

“Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”— Hebrews 4:16

You don't need an appointment.

You don't need perfect words.

You don't need to wait until you have everything together.

You can simply come.

Digging Deeper This Week

Spend time with these passages and notice how personally God sees, knows and listens to His people:

  • Psalm 139:1–18 — God knows us completely and is present wherever we go.

  • Matthew 6:5–13 — Jesus teaches us how to approach our Father in prayer.

  • Matthew 10:29–31 — God's knowledge and care extend to the smallest details of our lives.

  • Psalm 34:15–18 — The Lord hears His people and is near to the brokenhearted.

  • Hebrews 4:14–16 — Because of Jesus, we can confidently approach God's throne of grace.

Weekly Challenge: Talk to Him About It

This week, instead of only bringing God the things you consider “big enough” for prayer, invite Him into the ordinary parts of your day.

In the morning, talk to Him about what's ahead.

When you're worried, tell Him what you're afraid of.

When something good happens, thank Him before moving on.

When you're frustrated, tell Him why.

When you don't know what to pray, simply sit quietly in His presence.

And once each day, put your phone away for five minutes.

No notifications.

No scrolling.

No distractions.

Just you and God.

Not because you need to get His attention.

But because often He is waiting for us.

A Prayer for the Week

Father, thank You for seeing me, knowing me and listening to me. It amazes me that the God who created everything cares about the details of my life. Forgive me for the times I hesitate to come to You because I think my concerns are too small or because I assume I need the perfect words. Help me remember that I never have to compete for Your attention. Teach me to talk with You throughout my day—not only when life becomes difficult, but in ordinary moments too. Help me become more aware of Your presence and more comfortable bringing everything to You. Thank You for being a Father who listens, a God who knows me completely and a Savior who invites me to come close. In Jesus' name, Amen.
